Getting to Know Jesus
Over 2,000 years ago, a man named Jesus walked the earth. He came from Nazareth, a small town in what is now Israel, and traveled throughout the region, gathering a devoted following. But not everyone welcomed Him. Religious leaders accused Him of crimes He didn’t commit, and He was sentenced to death by crucifixion. However, His story didn’t end there—His followers boldly proclaimed that He had risen from the dead. From that moment, a movement began, growing into what we now know as the Christian church.

These are the historical facts that even skeptics acknowledge, but there’s so much more to who Jesus is. The Bible reveals His true identity, His purpose, and what He can do for you today. Let’s explore what Scripture teaches about Him:

1. Jesus Is God
From the very beginning, Jesus existed as God. The apostle John wrote:
"In the beginning was the Word [a poetic name for Jesus], and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." (John 1:1 ESV)

Jesus created everything (John 1:3), and when He spoke about His relationship with God, the religious leaders knew exactly what He was saying—He was claiming to be God (John 5:17-18). After His death, His resurrection proved His divine nature to the world (Philippians 2:5-11).

2. Jesus Is the Son of God
Being the “Son of God” doesn’t mean Jesus is lesser than God—it means He is fully God, yet distinct as one of three persons in what we call the Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).

His claim to be the Son of God was what angered the religious leaders of His time:
"He was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God." (John 5:18 ESV)

3. Jesus Became Human Through a Miraculous Birth
Before coming to earth, Jesus existed eternally in heaven (John 17:5). But through the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born as a human through a virgin named Mary (Matthew 1:20-25). This miraculous birth showed that Jesus was no ordinary man—He was both fully human and fully divine (Colossians 2:9, Luke 1:34-35).

4. Jesus Is the Savior of the World
Every person has sinned—that means we’ve all disobeyed God at some point. Sin separates us from Him, and the penalty is death. But because of His great love, God sent Jesus to save us (John 1:41).

Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and willingly took our place by dying on the cross. Then, three days later, He rose from the dead, proving His power over sin and death. Through Him, we can be forgiven and have a restored relationship with God (Acts 4:12, John 3:16).

5. Jesus Performs Miracles
Jesus didn’t just teach—He demonstrated His power in incredible ways. He:

Healed the sick (Matthew 8:16)
Calmed storms (Mark 4:39)
Multiplied food to feed thousands (Matthew 14:14-21)
Even provided money when it was needed (Matthew 17:24-27)
And His miracles didn’t stop when He left the earth—He’s still working in people’s lives today (Acts 3:12-16).

6. Jesus Changes Lives
When people encountered Jesus, they were never the same. He freed Mary Magdalene from seven demons (Luke 8:2), and she became one of His most devoted followers (John 20:16). Zacchaeus, a dishonest tax collector, repaid what he had stolen and gave half his wealth to the poor after meeting Jesus (Luke 19:1-10).

For 2,000 years, Jesus has been transforming lives. The Bible says:
"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV)

Jesus can transform your life too—bringing freedom from sin (Romans 6:22), renewing your mind (Romans 12:2), and healing your heart (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17). Would you like to invite Him into your life?

7. Jesus Is in Heaven, Listening to Our Prayers
After His resurrection, Jesus returned to heaven, where He is seated at God’s right hand. He is not distant—He hears and responds to our prayers (Romans 8:34).

8. Jesus Will Return as Judge
Jesus promised that one day, He would come back:
"They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." (Matthew 24:30 ESV)

When He returns, He will separate those who belong to Him from those who have rejected Him (Matthew 25:31-33). But He offers salvation to everyone who seeks Him.

9. Jesus Welcomes Everyone Who Comes to Him
No matter who you are or what your past looks like, Jesus welcomes you with open arms:
"Whoever comes to me I will never cast out." (John 6:37 ESV)

That’s why He came—to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10). He’s not waiting for you to be “good enough.” He’s ready to meet you where you are and lead you into a new life with Him (Luke 5:32).

Would you like to know Jesus personally? He’s just a prayer away.

Be a witness!
